I was in my mid-20’s when I had my first sapphire sky moment. I hadn’t flown much at that point and was standing in line to board a plane, looking out the windows at a gray, dreary day, and judging by the faces of the trudging passengers there didn’t seem to be much to smile about. Everybody just seemed stressed and glum, ho hum, ho hum. We plopped into our assigned seats and I stared out of my window between rain rivulets at the suitcases being loaded and little carts whooshing thru puddles on the tarmac. We pushed back, took our place on the runway, and then we were off. Leaving the cold, wet, muddy ground under us we flew higher and higher, eventually surrounded in what felt like a solid mass of clouds with no discernible light and nothing for my eyes to see out the rain-streaked windows except marbled fuzzy fluff. The plane shuddered with tiny fits of turbulence as our altitude continued to creep up thru the endless haze.
Just as I was slowly dozing off, my face reflexively contorted into a squint. The fogginess we had been lost in for what seemed like forever suddenly disappeared, and offered in its place was a massive expanse of bright blue sky sunshine that stretched on and on into infinity. What I witnessed in front of me was so beautiful and serene, so drastically different from where we had started and the gloom we had just seemed to be stuck in. The only clouds now were those that we had already broken thru, and once cleared they appeared benign and harmless as soft cushions blanketing below. The energy on the plane shifted, and it felt as if there was one big, calm, contented sigh breathed throughout the cabin.
A lover of all things analogy, this one wasn’t wasted on me. I saw my lessons LARGE.
1. Clouds are like negative or intrusive thoughts/emotions shrouding the blue sky that is always there.
2. I’ll say it again and again and again: whether we can see it or not, the blue sky is ALWAYS there.
3. Sometimes it helps to have a co-pilot to help you navigate above the murk and mire. As we all know, the struggle is real!
Reaching the blue sky does not necessarily assure happiness, and breaking through thru the clouds isn’t always an immediate fix, but on the other side of the shadows lives limitless amounts of what you need to get you to your goal’s achievement… CLARITY. As a coach, I can help you chart your course, pack for your journey, and be the wingman by your side keeping you aware of obstacles that may be forming ahead and teaching you how to navigate through or around them quickly to get back to a clear and constructive mindset. I am handing over the keys, ready to ride shotgun as long as you need me here. All you have to do is start the engine and we are cleared for takeoff… a sapphire sky is ALWAYS there waiting, it’s a fact. Let’s go find yours!
